Heteronormativity

The assumption that heterosexuality is the default, normal, or preferred sexual orientation. In the context of gender socialization, heteronormativity means that children who are seen as 'properly' masculine boys or feminine girls are automatically assumed to be heterosexual. This assumption is deeply embedded in how society teaches children about gender roles and relationships.
